AlgaGen ReefPODS™ Copepod Starter Kit 8oz
ReefPODS™ are the only truly tropical live copepod culture available on the market today. Your reef will enjoy this supplemental trio of Tisbe, Apocyclops, and blend of LIVE microalgae, not only as a food source, but as an excess nutrient export.
ReefPODS™ Tisbe is a live culture of the harpacticoid copepod Tisbe biminiensis. Tisbe adult copepods live on bottom substrate such as live rock or sand and will eat detritus and microalage in the aquarium. They produce a small nauplii which is an excellent food for aquarium filter feeders and fish larvae. The adults are eaten by small bottom feeding fish such as gobies, dragonettes and blennies.
ReefPODS™ Apocyclops is a cyclopoid copepod that is found in tropical waters throughout the world. It is a very opportunistic, colonizing copepod that can reach very high densities. This cyclopoid behaves a lot like a harpacticoid copepod in that the adults spend most of time on the substrate. The adults provide excellent food for mandarins, dragonettes, pipefishes, seahorses, leopard wrasses and anything that hunts for its food or picks off the substrate. The juveniles or nauplii will move through the water column making them an ideal candidate for a refugium or organisms that feed from the water column. The nauplii are very small, making them an appropriate LIVE food for even SPS corals. This CopePOD is a detritivore and will consume waste making it a perfect addition as the micro part of your clean-up crew. Apocyclops truly feeds your entire reef!
PhycoPure™ REEF BLEND is a blend of LIVE microalgae specifically assembled for use as a supplement for marine reef aquarium filter feeders. PhytoPlankton are single celled “plants” that are important to the health of a reef tank. PhytoPlankton take excess nutrients such as nitrates, phosphates, heavy metals, iron, as well as carbon dioxide, and combine them using sunlight, during photosynthesis, to create oxygen and the essential fatty acids that are critical to the health of marine organisms. These Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) are either consumed directly by corals, clams, or other filter-feeders. Copepods also consume PhytoPlankton and are in turn eaten by fish or corals. In this way these super important fatty acids enter the food chain. PhycoPureTM REEF BLEND is composed of 9 different species of microalgae spanning a range of particle sizes (some-thing for everyone).
